Biblestorying is one of the most exciting ways to teach, disciple and train. It’s a fun, interactive way to learn God’s Word and gain understanding of His ways throughout history. Bible Storying in a chronological sequence helps the hearer to connect all of God’s Word together and understand the ‘big picture’ of the Bible. It’s also a powerful way to share the gospel.
In each Biblestorying session, the new story is told and retold for the hearers to remember the story ? Children are encouraged and given the opportunity to retell the story during the story time. God has called His children to be forerunner messengers… to ‘Tell His Story and Give Him Glory’.
At the end of each Biblestorying session, encourage children to go and tell two other people the Bible Story (i.e. parents, friends, relatives) and call grandma on the phone to tell her
This method of teaching allows all children, even the youngest ones, to be involved in the listening and drama of each Bible story. Although younger children may not understand all the details, process, reasoning; they will be able to receive much of the essence of the story in their spirits because it is spiritual truth declaring God’s Word & His ways. Activities such as drawing, sewing, games, and reading can be geared for age appropriateness.
Each story also focuses on some characteristic of the Messiah ~ who was to come and is coming again! God wants His children to recognize the Messiah and not be deceived. The Appointed Times of the LORD are very specific times set by God that He has chosen to reveal Himself and His ways throughout history. These Appointed Times all point to Messiah, with fulfillment in and through Him. Celebrate the Feasts of the LORD. Rejoice in learning more about God from His Appointed Times. What a delight to ‘remember & experience’ His ways as you tell His Story and prepare for His 2nd coming!
“Tell to the generation to come the praises of the LORD.
and His strength and His wonders that He has done…
that they should put their confidence in God, and not forget
the works of God, but keep His commandments” ~ Psalm 78 ~
Different Biblestorying methods may be used to tell and retell the story. Statistics show we need to hear the story at least 7 times to remember the details. There are specific suggestions in the Visual Story Bible Curriculum for each story. Here are some general suggestions for telling and retelling: do an ‘impromptu’ drama of the story/do the drama again with different children as different characters in the story/make props for the drama/ record & edit your own drama/include all the family in the drama/ review details of the story ‘in order’ / review by telling the first scene and asking ‘what happened next?’/ have different children come forward and tell the bible story/participate in God’s Appointed Times and learn about His Biblical Calendar/ prepare special foods/ color a picture (download coloring sheet from Visual Story Bible website)/draw a picture of the story/ play a game/ read the story aloud from the Bible/ read a book about the bible story/ sew a Quilt Square ~ available at Visual Story Bible website/make up a ‘rap’ or rhyme about the story/ sing a song about the story/ watch a movie about the story / retell the story at bedtime.
